Overlooking the Savannah River in historic downtown Augusta, stands the Morris Museum of Art—the first museum in the country dedicated to the art and artists of the American South. Noted for its multifaceted permanent collection, diverse and continually changing exhibitions, as well as informative public programs, the Morris Museum is dedicated to the interpretation of Southern art in all its forms and the preservation of the region’s rich visual culture.
From nineteenth-century portraits to contemporary studio art glass, the Morris Museum boasts a collection of five thousand works of art—paintings, sculptures, prints, and photographs—that are arranged in ten thematic galleries. In addition, the Morris hosts twelve to sixteen special exhibitions annually, and a rich variety of public programs including lectures, workshops, tours, concerts, readings, family events, and so much more!
