In some ways, Stone Roastery was inevitable once Brad
Stone started roasting his own coffee beans. After he
couldn’t find a local source to provide the fresh-roasted
beans he loved, Stone started home-roasting. First he
did it for himself, then to provide coffee to churches on
Sunday morning. Eventually, he was essentially forced to open his eponymous café to
keep up with demand. Stone was a rock star.
Stone starts with 100 percent top-grade Arabica beans from small plantations around the world. The beans make their way to North Augusta, where they are roasted in-house. Finally, they are infused into a huge harvest of options, from traditional pour-over coffee to cold brew to espresso-based concoctions. Flat whites, breves, affogato – you name it. The beans are for sale in the store, or you can be order your favorite style of roast online.
The roadside roastery achieves a quirky, laid-back vibe with its interesting brew of hip beverages, a collection of comforting cakes baked by Brad’s mom and wife, and welcoming Southern manners and décor, including posted odes to first responders and a model of the General Lee from “Dukes of Hazzard.” It’s a feast for the eyes and the palate.
